Presented by Smith Thompson Home Security, the Texas Legends conducted their first “Love Those Legends” tour of the 2016-17 season. The first of four and the first of two to Oklahoma City, Legends brass took 30 fans north to OKC to see their Legends defeat the Thunder-affiliated Blue, 110-107. You can read about the game here.

In Legends style, fans got a truly unique experience, personally escorted out of the Dr Pepper Arena parking lot by team Owner and Dallas Mavericks General Manager Donnie Nelson, doing his best air traffic controller impersonation.

Team President & GM Malcolm Farmer headed the bus along with Assistant GM Travis Blakeley, who took on the role of MC and addressed the crowd before the bus driver named Adele (but not thatAdele) said hello (ha! But still not that Adele) and we were on our way.

Snacks and drinks were available, but the real treat came upon arrival at the Cox Convention Center in beautiful downtown Oklahoma City. A tasty spread awaited in an exclusive lounge just for tour members.

With tipoff looming, Blakeley addressed the room and offered fans a unique look inside Head Coach Bob MacKinnon’s game plan. Running the floor and keeping the Blue off the offensive glass were things shared with the team and now trusted to these fans.

On the handouts were some of the goals for the night’s contest, the Legends also concocted a tracker to personally follow along with the team’s highlighted goals. On top of that, every fan got to participate in guessing the game’s final score. Aided by offensive, defensive and pacing stats from Blakeley, fans guessed the final with the winner taking home an authentic Texas Legends jersey.

Anson Craig from Sherman, Texas found out about “Love Those Legends” through the team’s official Twitter account. This was his first Legends game and he says he now plans to attend a home game soon.

“The food was delicious,” the huge Mavs fan says. “Especially the sugar cookies!” (to which I concur)

Prime seating awaited the group, fully accommodated by Legends brass, Cox Convention Staff and Blue personnel alike.

McKenna Kasnetz is what you would call a ‘super fan’ of the Legends, a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of the team. A friend went on the tour in 2015 and 2016 was her turn. Kasnetz attends every weekend home game at minimum.

The Edwards family, based in Frisco, entered to win through the team’s website and took their youngest son on the memorable close encounter of the Texas Legends kind. Dad’s a basketball purist, so he just enjoyed the game in general but Mom and son were both enthralled with the close proximity and interaction with the players.  As the team exited the floor, following a close victory, they swung by their fan base’s seats to high five everyone and show appreciation for the support.

In a unique sequence of events, the team joined the bus ride home, giving a once in a lifetime opportunity to reflect on the big day from all sides of the game.  A little bit of rain and another movie down and eventually the bus was silent as sleep won out.

It’s the little things that make this team so special.  The interaction with the players and coaches, the extra touches like a VIP buffet or inside scouting report.  What happens on the court is the ultimate tale of the tape, but the exclusive happenings off of it are where the Texas Legends organization truly stands apart from everyone else.

The “Love Those Legends” Tour resumes December 28th with a trip to Austin while six lucky fans will be taken to Toronto for the NBA D-League Showcase in 2017! The fourth and final tour goes back to Oklahoma City on April 1st.
